NEW GLASGOW – Rita Elizabeth Odo, 93, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, passed away, Friday, March 31, 2017 in the Manor. Born in New Glasgow on July 20, 1923, she was a daughter of the late John David and Cecilia (Young) DeYoung. Elizabeth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New Glasgow since 1956 and loved her church family dearly. She had the honour of being one of the longest serving members of the church in Nova Scotia. Elizabeth lived her faith daily and enjoyed providing for those in need. She was a very humble and hospitable lady, who shared all she possessed with friends and family, from an elaborately laden table to a fitting parting gift. Elizabeth leaves a legacy of love, devotion and faith to her family. Surviving are daughters, Judy Odo-Russell, New Glasgow; Marie (Fred) Cook, Thorburn; son, Robert (Marina) Odo, Linacy; chosen daughter, Carol (Doug) MacLeod, Thorburn; brother, Francis DeYoung, Riverton; grandchildren, Jeanette (John) Hashem, John Russell (Cathy), Jason (Sherri) Russell, Jared Russell, Maria (Brian) Gunn, Teena Chaulker, Richard (Tena) Cook, Daren (Lisa) Cook, Troy Cook (Mado), Robert Odo Jr. (Julie), Brittany Odo, Jennifer MacLeod (Jonathan) and Adam (Katie) MacLeod; many great-grandchildren; several great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Robert William Odo; sisters, Isabel MacLeod, Agnes Doucette and Mary Dunbar; son-in-law, Jack Russell; sister-in-law, Betty DeYoung; brothers-in-law, John MacLeod, Harvey Doucette and Thomas Dunbar. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 3 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 384 Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow with President Stephen MacDonald officiating.
