Obituary of Donald Arthur Betts

CHURCHVILLE – Donald Arthur Betts, 73, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Churchville, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 in the villa, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 24, 1945, in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Ira D. and Mary C. (Cameron) Betts. Donnie was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton. After marrying his wife, Eileen, on January 14, 1967, they departed for Australia on January 17th of the same year, where he was employed as a printer for almost six years before returning to Pictou County, where they raised their two children. Donald enjoyed travelling with his wife Eileen, sailing with his friend, Lothar Schollmeier and playing snooker at the Century Snooker Club, New Glasgow with the boys. He was a loving father and grandfather, who was especially proud of his grandson, Sasha. Surviving are his wife 52 years, Eileen; daughter, Meghan; son, Damien (Helena); grandson, Sasha; brother, Robie (Donna); mother-in-law, Alice; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Gerry), Carol (Robert), Jane (Kairens) and Nieva; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Annie and Rhoda; brother, Frederick in infancy; father-in-law, Gordon. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 26th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 27th with Rev. Karen A. Ross officiating. Interment will be Churchville Cemetery. The family wish to thank the Valley View Villa staff for the wonderful, compassionate care Donald received and to his Valley View Villa family for the many friendships he forged. Special thank you to Bob Forbes, family and friends for the many visits which Donald greatly enjoyed. If desired, a tree planted in Donnie’s memory would be most fitting.
