Obituary of Esther Marjorie MacGillivray

LISMORE – Esther Marjorie MacGillivray, 90, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow formerly of Lismore, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 in the Manor. Born in Avondale, she was a daughter of the late Cameron Samuel and Charlotte “Lottie” (Arbuckle) Murdock. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Prior to retirement, she was a bookkeeper for the former J. A. Doyle Lobster Plant, Lismore. Esther was foremost interested in caring for her family and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed attending card parties, knitting, crocheting, sewing and traveling. Surviving are her daughters, Eleanor (Peter) Slevin, Marsha (Alvin) MacDonald, The Ponds; sons, Wilfred “Bud” (Mary) MacGillivray, Kevin (Joan) MacGillivray, Lismore; sisters, Anna Mason, The Ponds; Dorothy “Dot” (Lawrence) Williams, Barney’s River; grandchildren, Perry, Dana, Steven, David, John Allen, John, Blaine, Brian, Kurtis and Robin; great-grandchildren, Chailyn, Jonathan, Jordan, Jacob, Matthew, Lindsey, Annie, Lilly, Ella, Evan and Josie; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Laurier “Buff” MacGillivray; son, Gordie; infant daughter, Mary; sisters, Ruth, Lorraine and Thelma; brothers, Russell, Grant, George “Dick”, Alfred and Calvin. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday , Nov. 9th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
