Obituary of Nigel Gwynne Board

KINGS HEAD - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nigel Gwynne Board, 27-04-58, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow after many years battling chronic illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cardiff, Wales, he was a son of the late Leonard Gwyn and Maureen Winnifred (Brown) Board. While living in Wales, he worked for the family construction company, Board Brothers. After coming to Canada in 1984, he worked at the former Save Easy, Trenton Works and later on with his sons in the landscaping business. He had a love for rugby, especially playing for the Pentyrch Rugby Club. Upon moving to Canada, he played rugby for Pictou County Senior Men’s Team. If you knew Nigel, you knew his love for tea, the outdoors and his fury friends Max, Sadie and Bella. He was deeply saddened with the loss of his one true fur companion, Jake. His pride and joy were his three grandsons, Cohen and Kalel Ross and Rhys Board. They made him a big softy and showed him the true meaning of unconditional love. They were the light of his life and he loved sitting and chatting with them over a cup of tea. As they get older, I’m sure they will always remember their card games, board games and definitely, their chats over cups of tea, it was their special time. Surviving is his wife, Donna Board (Hislop), they’ve been together for over 30 years. She has been by his side through all it, the operations, physiotherapy and right to the very end. His children, Haileigh (Stephen MacGillivray) Board, Merigomish; Zachary (Candice Gibson), Halifax; Ryan (Amanda Davidson), Kings Head and Kaitlynn (Ethan Scanlan), Halifax. His grandchildren, Cohen and Kalel Ross (sons of Haileigh Board and Steve Ross) and Rhys Board (son of Ryan Board and Amanda Davidson). His family in Wales, sisters, Carol (David) Hann and Linda Collie; brothers, Richard (Linda), Paul, Chris, Colin (Debbie) and Steven Board. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Carol Board; sister-in-law, Fran Board; brother-in-law, Viv Collie; father-in-law, Wayne Hislop; Melody Board (Haileigh and Zachary’s Mom). As Nigel’s family, there is not enough that we can say regarding the care and compassion the Palliative Care Team gave to Nigel, including all the nurses and Dr. Kwasnik. We can only hope that Thank you is enough. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Thank you for your knowledge. Thank you for the special care, you provided to Nigel. Thank you to Dr. Jota, his family physician, and all the Westville Medical Clinic staff, especially to Dr. MacDougall for the care and compassion you showed Nigel during this past week. And a special thank you to the VON, who have been a constant care provider to Nigel for many years. So many wonderful nurses have walked through our door and provided the utmost care and conversation to help get through the days. Some have become wonderful friends who we cherish daily (Kathy and Nancy, you know who you are and what you have meant to Nigel and I, he loved seeing you and as did our fur babies ). There will be no visitation or funeral at Nigel’s request. Instead, the family will be hosting “A Tea for Nigel”, 1 p.m., Saturday, October 16th, at the family home.
