Obituary of Loretta Marguerita Stewart

NEW GLASGOW – Loretta Marguerita “Rita” Stewart, 86, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Westville, passed away, Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family. Born in East Roman Valley, she was a daughter of the late Bernard Vincent and Caroline Margaret (Anderson) Walsh. During the Second World War, she was employed in the Winnipeg War Plant, Blasting Cap Department. Prior to retirement in 1986, she had been employed with the Aberdeen Hospital House Keeping Department for 20 years. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She enjoyed playing cards and doing word find puzzles. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Surviving are her daughters, Caroline (Dr. Spencer) Barclay, New Glasgow; Donna (Ronald) MacKay, Hazel Glen; son, Bernard (Lynda) Stewart, Central Caribou; grandchildren, Stewart, Krystle, Stephen, Andrew, Justine, LeRoy, Bernice and Lynette; great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Breagh, Hannah, Duncan and Alison; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Duncan Stewart; children, John Dan and John D. in infancy, Brian “Farlin”; sisters, Christina and Mary; brothers, Lew, Dan, Alex and Greg; special niece, Gertrude. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and musical celebration 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Dave Campbell officiating. Interment will be in North Lochaber Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
