Obituary of Douglas Charles Sanderson

NEW GLASGOW – Douglas Charles “Doug” Sanderson, 70, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in Amherst, he was the son of the late Charles Alonzo and Ethel Elizabeth (Ripley) Sanderson. Doug was a Branch Manager with the Royal Bank of Canada throughout the Atlantic provinces for over 35 years. He was an active volunteer with the Kinsmen Club, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club and Jaycees through out the various communities in which he resided. Doug was a great outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a “jack of all trades” and would “turn his hand” to almost anything. Following retirement, Doug was a “familiar face” at local auctions. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who was very proud of the family he and his wife, Betty, began. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Betty; daughters, Karen Sanderson, Moncton, N.B.; Gail (Kyle) Caudle, Truro; Cathy (Brad) Detchevery, Fredericton, N.B.; grandchildren, Roxie, Kristopher, Coby, Daniel, Jordan, Robyn, Tessa and Chloe; sisters, Alma Scharnau (Dennis Orr), Vernon, B.C.; Charlotte (John) Hacquoil, Dartmouth; father and mother-in-law, Sidney and Roxie Whitman, Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Nichola Caudle. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2019 in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit Endowment or the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia.
