NEW GLASGOW – James “Jim” “Buddy” Cameron. It is with great sadness that his family announce his passing at the age of 80 on the morning of May 16th while in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow. Born on December 3, 1935 in Inverness, he was a son of the late Allister and Evelyn (Proudfoot) Cameron. Jim retired in 1994 from Scott Maritimes after 27 years of service. Prior to working in the pulp and paper industry, he was employed with the former Maritime Tel & Tel, throughout Cape Breton and later with Bell Telephone, Montreal. Jim was involved with the Confederation of Labour for several years, serving as Area Vice-President. He later served on the Employment Insurance Appeal Board, the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission and the New Glasgow and District Labour Council. Jim was an active member of the New Democratic Party for many years. He was fortunate to have had loyal friends and treasured his friendships with Jim Crockett, Phalen Cotter, Gerald Savoy, cousin Brent Cameron and his travelling companion, Stewart MacDonald. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be treasured forever by those he loved. Surviving are his best friend and wife of 58 years, Jeanette; daughters, Gail (Larry) MacDonald; Sharon (Henry) Adamson and their children, Shallan, Sydney and Camryn; Allison (Rich) Andrews and their children, Alexa and Luke; son, Arnold (Diane) and their children, Katelyn and Sam; sister, Adelaide “Kim” Cameron; brother, Roy; several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. In keeping with Jim’s request, his family will honour his wishes for no public visitation. A private interment will take place in Inverness at a later date. Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment, Canadian Cancer Society or The War Amps CHAMP Program.
