Obituary of Donald Alexander MacIntosh
NEW GLASGOW – Donald Alexander MacIntosh, 89, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 14, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Harry Goodwin and Ada Christine (Thompson) MacIntosh. During the Second World War, Donald served overseas with the Canadian Army and was wounded in action in Kaplan, Germany in 1945. Upon discharge from the army, Donald studied to become a machinist and became very accomplished at his craft. For over 40 years, he was a Locomotive Engineer with the Canadian National Railroad, retiring in 1989. Donald was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. He was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer, who enjoyed spending time on his boat, saltwater fishing and hunting in the forest at his camp. In recent years, he enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. Living beside the East River, Donald was an unofficial overseer and protector of the waterway. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who loved him.
Surviving are sons, Warren, Anderson’s Mountain; David (Darleen), Pictou; Stephen (Cathy), MacLellan’s Brook; daughter-in-law, Vivian Turner, New Glasgow; sister, Betty Holroyd, Montreal; grandchildren, Heather, Donna, Michael, Cora, Jessie, Amy, Donald, Katlynn, Trevor; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Alta Leona (O’Neil); sister, Eileen Hingley.
