Obituary of Ruth Frances MacLeod
AVONDALE – Ruth Frances MacLeod, 86, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Avondale, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the Villa, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Harry Garfield and Violet Mae (Sangster) Gosbee. In earlier years, Ruth was employed as a camp cook, where her cooking skills were very much appreciated. While having and raising her eight children, she was employed with the former Doyle’s Fish Factory, Lismore for over 20 years. Ruth enjoyed seasonal employment with the Department of Transportation and various other jobs. She possessed an enduring faith in her Lord and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Westville, where she very much appreciated her church family. Ruth was “full of life”, always “ready to go”. Playing Bingo with her aunt Mae, dice and cards with family and friends, singing, dancing and playing many musical instruments was an important part of her life, especially, spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are son, Raymond (Irene) MacLeod, Avondale; daughters, Florence Sutherland (Malcolm Ross), Plymouth; Beverly (Dave) Barker, Riverton; Frances (Jerome) MacDonald, Bailey’s Brook; Shirley McLeod (John Wilson), Lansdowne; Lynda MacLeod, Little Harbour; Gloria (Ronnie) Bezenar, Trenton; daughter-in-law, Carol MacLeod, Oshawa, Ont.; sisters, Barbara (Douglas) Smith, Mount William; Joan (James) Stewart, Telford; Alice (Garfield) Dunn, Sylvester; brothers, Henry Gosbee, Hopewell; Lawson Gosbee, Westville; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, William Robert “Bill” MacLeod; son, Arthur MacLeod; grandchildren, (twins) Tyler and Kyle McLeod, Lance Duggins and Davina Bezenar; sisters, Elva O’Connor and Tena Fraser; brothers, Wesley Gosbee and Ward Gosbee; son-in-law, David Duggins and Donald Sutherland.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 11 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12 in the chapel with Pastor Ryan King officiating. Interment will be in Kenzieville Cemetery.
