Obituary of Carolyn Louise Miller

LITTLE HARBOUR – Carolyn Louise Miller, 75, Little Harbour, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with her son and daughter by her side. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late James E. Rumley and Mildred A. (Conrad) (Rumley) Hake. Carolyn worked as a child at the former family owned Rumley’s Grocery Store, Little Harbour. After graduation from the Commercial program at East Pictou Rural High School, she was employed as a secretary with Sobeys Head Office, Stellarton. When the family store in Little Harbour was sold, the family moved to Sydney where she was employed in public relations with Dominion Steel and Coal Company. Carolyn’s father opened the first Dairy Queen Brazier Store in 1962 in Sydney, where she was the dayshift manager. In November 27, 1965 she married John Lee Miller and in 1972 they returned to Pictou County, living in New Glasgow until 1978 when they moved to Little Harbour. Carolyn was a member of Little Harbour Presbyterian Church, where in her teens, served as organist and in later years taught Sunday school. While her children were in school, she worked many long hours, creating crocheted crafts and baked goods, which she sold at flea markets and craft shows for many years, proudly contributing to her family. After recovering from Guillain Barré Syndrome, she became a member of the GBS Support Group of Canada and a support person for all of Nova Scotia, later, joined the GBS-CIDP Foundation International. Surviving are her daughter, Hallee (Kevin) Gratto, Little Harbour and their children, Jamie and Ryan; son, Michael Miller (Ashlea Snell), Little Harbour and their son, Logan; sister, Blanche Robertson, Sydney; many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John Lee Miller; step-father, Fred Hake; step-mother, Frances (Mitton) (Rumley) MacQueen; several in-laws. The family will receive visitors 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018, in Little Harbour Presbyterian Church from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev.
