Obituary of Ernest Alvin Stroud
STELLARTON – Ernest Alvin “Ernie” Stroud, 88, Stellarton, passed away, Thursday, January 28, 2010, surrounded by his family, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Theodore Stroud and Lela Dale (Brown) (Stroud) Gunn. Ernie served with the Canadian Army during the Second World War. He was a coal miner and had worked in many county mines. He spent many enjoyable hours viewing antique cars, collecting model cars, gardening and working in his yard. He greatly enjoyed music, playing the spoons and drums. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Florence Ina Stroud; daughters, Deborah Stroud (Henry Langille), Westville; Marilyn Bobyk (Sandy Morrison), Coalburn; Nancy Stroud, Stellarton; Susan (Shawn) Dashwood, Brampton, Ont.; son, James Stroud, Stellarton; sister, Hazel MacDonald, Thorburn; brother, William (Muriel) Stroud, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Lillian Stroud, Plymouth; grandchildren, Shawna (Bobby), Monica, Crystal, Jeffery and J.D. (Jay); great-granddaughters, Fox, Rebecca and Savannah; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Ora Fraser and Jean Buell; brother, Theodore.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31stin the Chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
