Obituary of Mary Evangeline Portelli

NEW GLASGOW – Mary Evangeline “Eva” Portelli, 86, New Glasgow, formerly of Lwr. Barney’s River, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family. Born in Lwr. Barney’s River, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Copeland and Annie Sarah (Arbuckle) MacDonald. She was an adherent of Bible Baptist Church, New Glasgow. She owned and operated the former R & E. General Store, Kenzieville and the Canteen & Take Out, Lwr. Barneys River with her late husband, Reno. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Surviving are her daughters, Anna (Stephen) Demetre, Abercrombie; Rena Lee Portelli, at home; grandsons, Luke, Dann and Joel Demetre; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reno Peter Portelli; granddaughter, Hope Demetre; sisters, Helen Dwyer, Catherine O’Connor Cameron, Ruth Haggart, Geraldine Yountz, Joyce O’Connor, June Stewart and Rita Fraser ; brothers, Thomas and Robert MacDonald. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3rd in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held in the Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4th with Rev. Ryan King officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit or St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Dialysis Unit, 25 Bay Street, Angonish, NS B2G 2G5.
