Obituary of Eva Isobel Nelson
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Eva Isobel Nelson, 92, Stellarton, on Saturday, March 28th, 2015.
Although illness slowed her down a bit in the last few years, she enjoyed a long, happy life, and in that time, gave so much to our lives. Eva was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 11, 1922 and moved with her family to Perth-Andover, New Brunswick where she spent her childhood years.
Eva loved living on her family farm and enjoyed all the outdoor activities rural New Brunswick had to offer. She trained as a medical secretary and EEG technician, and worked at hospitals in Saint John, Regina, Montreal and New Glasgow. Eva left hospital work to raise her family and help run the family business with her husband, Bob (R.H. Nelson Plumbing and Heating Ltd.). She actively supported her children in their education and many extra-curricular interests, and she kept them well supplied with hand-knit sweaters and chocolate brownies. She returned to work in medical records of the Aberdeen Hospital following her husband’s illness and early passing. Upon retirement, Eva discovered her artistic talent and happily immersed herself in painting. She loved observing nature and capturing the sights and colours around her. She was an active member of the Pictou County Artists Association and welcomed the opportunity this gave her to make new friends and explore her creativity.
Eva was a life-long learner – she was curious about people and world events to the very end, and she always had a strong sense of fairness and social equity. There is no doubt that she was proud, determined and independent. Above all else, Eva loved her family. She cherished wonderful memories of her parents, Robert and Maggie (Tulloch) MacKay, and her brother, Bill. She and her husband, Bob, built a life and home that nurtured close family ties, strong work ethic and good humour.
Eva loved her children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, and she proudly celebrated their individual personalities, talents and accomplishments. Eva will be missed and remembered by her children, Bill (Annie), St. Albert, Alberta; Jim (Maria), Plymouth and Margie, Berwick, as well as her grandchildren Bruce, Kevin and Paul (“the boys”) and Maggie and Evan.
The Family will receive visitors 3-7 p.m. Wednesday April 1 in P. &K. MacDonald funeral home, New Glasgow. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Eva’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. Please join us in appreciating and remembering a long life, well lived.
