Obituary of Verta Marguerite Chipman
NEW GLASGOW – Verta Marguerite Chipman, 81, New Glasgow, formerly of Bridgetown passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in North Williamston, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Gladys A. (Bent) Gates. She attended school in North Williamston and Lawrencetown. Verta was the first and youngest to graduate from the Legal Secretary Course at the former Valley Commercial School. She was employed as a legal secretary with Orlando and Hicks for 25 years and employed with several other companies. Verta utilized her professional skills outside of the office, supporting various organizations and volunteering in the community. She was a proficient bowler and enjoyed spending time with her pets. Verta was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Surviving are her daughter, Deborah Foster, Bridgetown; son, David Chipman, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Tammy (David) Foster-Veinot, Bridgetown and Jacqueline Foster, Lower Sackville; sister-in-law, Evelyn Gates, Middleton; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Clyde Chipman; brother, Adelbert Gates. The family will receive visitors 12 – 12:50 p.m. Saturday, June 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown with a reception to follow at Lawrencetown Volunteer Fire Department.
