Obituary of Lester Pennieo Purdy
NEW GLASGOW – Lester Pennieo Purdy, 66, New Glasgow, formerly of Wallace, passed away suddenly, Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pugwash, he was a son of the William and Kathleen Marie (Gould) Purdy. Lester was a red seal plumber and pipefitter working with U.A. Local 244, Antigonish prior to retirement. He look forward each morning to having coffee with his friends at Sobey’s in Aberdeen Mall. Most of all, Lester cherished the time spent with his wife and best friend, Agnes. He was a selfless man who lived each day to the fullest.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes; daughter, Kim Purdy, Chicago, Illinois; son, Travis Purdy, Ottawa; stepdaughters, Judy (John) Fraser, Union Center; Joan (Doug) Joyce, New Glasgow; Annie (Wayne) Lawrence, Springville; Edna (Leonard) Lyons, Woodburn; April (Andre) Piccini, Springville; brothers, Vern (Doris) Purdy, Wallace; Terry Purdy, Tatamagouche; Kirk (Janice) Purdy, Lower Sackville; sister-in-law, Jean Purdy, Tatamagouche; two grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a child in infancy; sister, Gail (Gordon) Thomson; brother, Donnie Purdy; step great granddaughter, Lilly Grace Lawrence.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26th in the chapel with Captain Dolores Abbott officiating.
