Obituary of Catherine Lloyd MacKinnon
NEW GLASGOW – Catherine Lloyd MacKinnon, 69, Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the home.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Carman Rhodes and Catherine Mary (Thompson) Bliss. Upon completion of high school, Catherine’s first employment was with the former Maritime Tel & Tel, New Glasgow, for many years. Following, she obtained her Real Estate licence and was employed with several real estate companies in New Glasgow. Prior to retirement in 1998, she was employed with Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow as a PCW for 15 years. Catherine enjoyed singing and was a member of the Keltic Chords. She enjoyed attending auctions and noontime skating at the John Brother MacDonald Stadium, New Glasgow.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Graham MacKinnon, New Glasgow; daughters, Meredith (Anthony) Sheehan, New Glasgow; Amanda MacKinnon (John Mason), Stellarton; granddaughter, Cailyn Sheehan; sisters, Joan MacDonald, Linacy; Carmen Bliss, Trenton; Dorothy Hubert, Toronto, Ont.; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2 in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook presiding, a reception will follow.
The MacKinnon family wish to thank the Maritime Odd Fellows Home staff for the exceptional care given to Catherine throughout her six year stay. Their dedication, compassion and support made the difficult journey with Alzheimer’s disease easier.
