COALBURN/MACLELLAN’S BROOK – Evelyn Catherine (Holmes) Henderson, Coalburn, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the Valley View Villa, Riverton, a month before her 96th birthday. Born on September 29, 1920 in Toney River, she was a daughter of the late Chester Daniel and Ida (MacDonald) Holmes. Evelyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and of the church’s Couples Club in the 50’s and 60’s. She was a member of the former MacLellan’s Brook Red Cross Society, Greenwood Home and School, and the 55-Plus Club, New Glasgow. Evelyn greatly enjoyed and excelled at playing darts and Auction Forty-Fives. In 2012 she sold the family farm and moved to Haven Brook Manor, Riverton where she enjoyed four very active years playing cards every night and driving her Buick during the day. Evelyn was very appreciative for the devotion of her caregivers, Heather, Linda and Susan, and her niece, Gayle Rae, her beautician and chauffeur. She expressed many times, her gratitude for Ernie and Dianna who faithfully played SkipBo with her every week for years. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who will be missed by those she loved. Surviving are her daughters, Karen (Mario) Bluguerman, New Minas; Rosalie (Fraser) Cox, Braeshore; grandchildren, Laurie (April Hennigar) Bolivar, Halifax; Christopher (Cynthia) Bolivar, Ottawa; Trevor Cox, Ottawa; Jonathan (Laura) Cox, Toronto, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Lesley and T.J., Halifax; Madison and Ryan, Ottawa; sisters-in-law, Muriel Henderson, Toronto; Laura Holmes, Fox Brook; Gloria Holmes, Fox Brook; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wallace “Wally” Henderson; sister, Alice Rae; brothers, George and Mack Holmes. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September, 3 in Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan’s Brook with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
