Obituary of Frank J. Hickey

NEW GLASGOW – Frank J. Hickey, 93, New Glasgow, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Montreal, Que., he was a son of the late William Cruise and Irene Dorothy (Gillespie) Hickey. Frank married his lifelong love, Margaret, in Montreal on April 29, 1950. He was a long-time employee of Sobey’s, retiring as Vice President, Merchandising. Frank was an interesting person, who was interested in people from all walks of life. He was a kind and generous man who dearly loved his family and took great interest in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank loved everything Irish, especially trips to Ireland with his Dartmouth friends and late wife, Margaret. He remained proud of his father’s part in leading the annual Montreal St. Patrick’s Day parade years ago. Frank and Margaret were long-time members of the Abercrombie Country Club and later in life, received honorary lifetime memberships for their volunteer work with the Club. He will be greatly missed by those he loved. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Hickey, Westville; grandchildren, Patrick (Donna) Hickey, Westville; Erin (Howie) Young, Mountville; Richard (Hannah Singer) Lann, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Parker, Jenna, Sam, Allister and Anthony; sister, Noreen Reid, Ottawa, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Mary Hickey; daughters, Janet and Brenda; brothers, William and Gerry. A public graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson presiding.
