Obituary of Edith Winnifred Burns
SALT SPRINGS, PICTOU CO. – Edith Winnifred Burns, 91, Salt Springs, Pictou Co., passed away, Monday, September 29, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lydia (Grono) Sharpe, the last surviving member of her immediate family. Edith was a dedicated homemaker, well known for her baking talents, especially her “nanny rolls”. She was an active member of St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs and a Life Member of St. Luke’s U.C.W. Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Walter A. R. Burns; children, John (Shari) Burns, Millsville; Patricia (Brett) Carrigan, Salt Springs; Robert (Claudia) Burns, Iqaluit; grandchildren, Christopher (Chevon), Timothy (Victoria), Sandy (Heather), Nicholas (Sarah), John (Chrissy), Nathan (Shirley), Steven (Emily), Daniel (Angela) and Haley (Jeremy); great-grandchildren, Luc, Ashton, Brandon, Lucas, Keigan, Aidan and Mylie; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by grandson, Aaron; sisters, Margaret, Annie, Prudence, Lalhia, Ola, Verna, Lillian, Jennie and Lydia; brothers, Stanley, Lawrence and Thomas.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel with Mr. Don Cameron officiating. Interment will be in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook.
