Obituary of Thelma Gertrude Ross
AVONDALE – Thelma Gertrude (Mason) Ross, 94, Avondale, passed away, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born on September 1, 1922 in Country Harbour, she was the daughter of the late Dearold Dearing “Dell” and Lida Lee (Clarke) Mason. Thelma grew up in Greenwood and spent most of her adult life in Avondale with her loving husband, Grant Ross and her six children whom she dearly loved. She was a member of Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville. Thelma enjoyed driving her car to New Glasgow to shop and visit with her family and friends, and in earlier years to visit her parents in Trenton. She leaves a legacy of having instilled strength and character in her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Beth MacDonald, Avondale; Adele MacLeod, St. John’s, Nfld.; Lois (Kevin) Thompson, Ponds; Vera Ross, Toronto; son, Robert (Wendy), Barney’s River; sisters-in-law, Pat Mason, New York, N.Y.; Amelia Fraser, Sutherland’s River; Nova Bannerman, Barney’s River; brother-in-law, Elmer Williams, Barney’s River; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Grant Ross; daughter, Mary Lee Mason; brothers, Willard in infancy, Shirley, Harold and Ralph; sisters-in-law, Jean Mason, Harriett Mason, Vera Stewart and Margaret “Peggy” Williams; brothers-in-law, Hugh Stewart, Donald Bannerman and Gilbert Fraser.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov 19th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Thelma’s granddaughter, Commander Bonnie Mason, officiating. Interment will be in Hattie’s Cemetery, Avondale.
