Obituary of Raymond Joseph MacKinnon
NEW GLASGOW – Raymond Joseph MacKinnon, 94, New Glasgow, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lismore, he was a son of the late William and Margaret (MacDonald). He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow and the former St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church.
Ray was a volunteer at the New Glasgow Food Bank, Meals on Wheels. In his younger years, he coached and played softball and was an avid Blue Jays fan. He was one of the main organizers in the construction of the Lismore Community Center. He was a long - haul truck driver, mechanic, mobile home sales and repairman. Ray enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles, keeping up on current events by reading. He was a strong family man who was proud of and loved his family dearly.
Surviving are his daughters, Mary (Stevie) MacInnis, Arisaig; Karmel Aberly, Vancouver, B.C.; Bernadette MacKinnon, New Glasgow; sons, Brian (Anna), Nelson, B.C.; Gary (Marie), Lismore; Ken (Shirley), Maple Ridge, B.C.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Isabel (MacDonald), brothers, Rev. Father Gus (OMI); Charlie; sisters, Marie, Annie, Carmel and Bernadette in infancy.
