Obituary of Muriel Ethel Sproull
PICTOU LANDING – Muriel Ethel Sproull, 95, Pictou Landing, passed away, Monday, August 9, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou Landing, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (MacLean) Sproull. She attended the former Normal College in Truro, graduating in 1934 and taught school in Barney’s River and Island East River. Following teaching, she was employed at the former Thompson and Sutherland Limited, New Glasgow, as a receptionist for Dr. Charles Harries and as a rural mail driver. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Pictou Landing and the Pictou Landing Seniors group. Muriel enjoyed spending time with family, was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, enjoyed working in her garden and loved her animals, especially her canine companions, Bonnie and Lady. She will be remembered for the care and devotion given to her parents and Uncle Truman.
Surviving are nephews and nieces, Allison (Ruth) Sproull, Edwin (Diane) Sproull, Carolyn (Barrie) MacMillian, Bill MacQuattie, Don MacQuattie, Heather (Bobby) Sugg, Alan MacQuattie, Mary (Jim) Pomeroy, Barbara Sproull-Seplaki, Jim (Nancy) Sproull and Jane (Callum) Thompson; niece-in-law, Marcelyn Sproull; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Alice MacQuattie; brothers, James and Dr. Lew; nephew, Doug Sproull.
The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 12th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 13th in Greenwood Cemetery, Pictou Landing with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
