Obituary of Douglas Roy Cameron

TRENTON – Douglas Roy Cameron, 72, Westville, formerly of Trenton and Big Island, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James MacLean Cameron and Kelzie Pauline (Schrader) Cameron Jardine, formerly of Big Island. Roy was a fisherman for many years until ill health prevented him from fishing. He had been employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation until early retirement at the age of 60. In the early 70’s, Roy served with the New Glasgow and Westville Police Department’s. In retirement, he worked with Harold DeMont hauling trailers, a job he and his wife, Allie, enjoyed. He and Allie were foster parents for many years. Roy enjoyed camping, traveling, riding his scooter and spending time with his grandchildren and dog, Jock. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Alice “Allie” (Paton); daughters, Kathy (Daniel) Thompson and their daughters, Kieran and Eva, Stellarton; Kim LeLacheur (Mike Chapman) and their children, Brody, Mason and Kamryn, Churchville; sons, James (Janet Rector) and his children, Kelzie (Josh) and their son, Oliver; Kristin and her daughter, Freya; Daniel, Payton and James Roy, Trenton; Brad (Krista) and their children, Ewen and Gwen, Westville; Josh (Chrissy) and their children, Ella, Ben, Alice, Grande Prairie, Alta.; Robert Cameron, Stellarton; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Lange, Big Island; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Ewen and Jessie Cameron; aunts, Isabel Jackson and Anne Williams. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 13th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 14th with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery. No flowers by request, please. Donations may be made in Roy’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. (Please click on link to donate online)
