Eddie, Deb and families. I was very saddened to hear of Spurge passing. He was a wonderful man and was so good to all the kids in Trenton. We looked to him at the old outdoor rink. He would tighten our skates and make sure we had heat when we came off the ice. When he took on coaching for all us girls, I am sure many times we drove him crazy but he never let us down and we were a tight knit group. I will miss him so much but the memories we have of Spurge will be with us forever. Thank you sharing your Dad with us.❤️❤️❤️

Dear MacDonald Family: I did not know Spurgeon well but I knew he was a fine man. He was always a gentleman and very involved in his community. He was also truly committed to his family. It is not good-bye but only so long for now. He will now receive his eternal reward & it will be great! God bless you all during this most difficult time.

You were a giant of a man in the best way. I remember you tying my skates as a youngster at the outdoor rink way back in the good old days. Skating under your watch during my school years, and then those Wednesday afternoons as an adult. Friday night High School hockey games and Bingo nights too!!! Come to think of it, you always seemed to be there when we were there. Then we got to introduce our children to you! That's when the fun started again!! You were kind and caring and sometimes "told it like it was" (even when I didn't want to hear it)! You tied and sharpened my kids skates too! We speak of you every now and then. When we heard of your passing, we all had a little chat and paused for reflection. One of the good ones. We wish you a well deserved rest. Thank you for the memories. To Eddy and the rest of the family we wish you comfort during these difficult times.

Your Dad was a big part of our lives as a young man. He and my Dad worked together. We were quite young when your Dad came but we always looked forward to him. He would take us for wagon rides when he wasn’t helping Dad. I remember him having a great sense of humour and I think I remember him taking us to the Turn-A-Bout in the big truck..My parents always had great respect for your Dad and would speak fondly of him long after he had gone elsewhere.I remember such a kind man and I am so sorry for your loss. Family Members, My sincere condolences in the passing of your dad. Spurge was a dedicated worker no matter what task he took on. The background picture for his obituary was so fitting; The Trenton Rink was like his second home. Spurge loved people and he was always kind, especially to all children. I enjoyed my talks with your dad and like countless others, he will be missed. Sending hugs and prayers your way.

I spent many nights flooding the outdoor rink in Trenton. Spurge put in countless hours without getting one cent. He was always concerned about making sure kids had a place to place, winter and summer. I had the pleasure of working with Spurge again at the Trenton Rink. Spurge always gave 100% at everything he did. I know how much Debbie, Sharon and Eddie are going to miss him. I miss our morning coffee sessions at the rink. He was a good friend. Kathy and I send our sincere condolences to the family.
