Obituary of Elma Evelyn Stainton

RIVERTON – Elma Evelyn Stainton, 94, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 in the Villa. Born on October 26, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Peter C. and Sara (Klassen) Enns. On September 9, 1939, Elma was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and led a life of devotion to the God she loved. In July, 1955, she, along with her late husband, Jim, were members of the 25th graduating class of Gilead. Elma was well known and appreciated for the many years spent as a full-time (special) pioneer. Elma faithfully studied her Bible and as a result was able to encourage others by sharing the truths she learned. She loved people; recognizing the importance of each unique life. Elma possessed the gift of hospitality, especially when living at her home in New Glasgow, each guest experienced a warm welcome and hearty meal. She was an avid Blue Jay fan and enjoyed caring for animals. Elma liked jewelry, especially pearl necklaces and brooches, often wearing them at the same time. Watermelon and strawberry sundaes were her favourite treats. Her quick wit, contagious smile and loving heart will not be forgotten. Elma leaves a rich legacy entrenched in her deep and enduring faith in Jehovah God. Surviving are sister, Doreen (Andrew) Piper, Denver, Colorado; her “Cooper Kids”, Chris and Jacki; her Kingdom Hall family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by loving husband of 54 years, Alex (Jim) Stainton; sister, Hilda (Frank) Hay; brothers, Gordon and Leonard; sister-in-law, Susan Enns. Funeral service was held Tuesday, September 3, 2019 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Westville. Thank you to the wonderful Valley View Villa staff for their kindness, care and support over the years; Dr. Chris Elliott; Angela Elliott and the many friends and congregation members who visited, telephone or send cards and letters. Donations in Elma’s memory may be made to any charity of choice. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow at a later date. “We will await anxiously for the day when Jehovah fulfills his promise and awaken her from death. (John 5:28, 29)
