Obituary of Leonora Grace Anderson
ABERCROMBIE – Leonora Grace Anderson, 97, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Abercrombie, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Thursday, December 27, 2018.
Born in North Platte, Nebraska, she was a daughter of the late Athen Adrian and Jessie MacKillop (Campbell) Smith. Leonora was the first member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Nova Scotia. She obtained the rank of Sgt. Major and served during the Second World War (1941 – 1945) in Halifax, Sydney and Shelburne as secretary to Col. Guildford, No. 6 District Deputy. Leonora was a stenographer with the Department of Mines (Diamond Drilling), New Glasgow for 30 years. She was an adherent of Bethel Baptist Church, Westville.
Surviving are daughter, Jeanette Begg, Surry, B.C.; sons, John, Guelph, Ont.; William “Bill” (Edith), Winnipeg, Man.; Alex, Abercrombie; grandchildren, Athen and Alexandrea, Winnipeg.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, John “Jack”; sister, Jeanette Smith; brother, Adrian Campbell Smith; son-in-law, John Begg.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 29th in at P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m Sunday, December 30th with Pastor Ryan King officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
