Obituary of Mary Alice MacKenzie

TRENTON – Mary Alice MacKenzie, 81, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Trenton, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 23, 2021 in the Villa. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Charles William and Mary Olive (Fraser) Barnett. Alice was a loving homemaker, who always sought to provide the best for her family. She was their “shining shield” and pillar of support. Alice possessed a generous heart and was a natural caregiver. She had a wonderful sense of humour and quick wit. Alice cherished spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to bake, cook and do crafts. She is perhaps best described by her granddaughter, “I spent a lot of my childhood hanging with my Nanny, making mud pies, walking the beach, Thrift shopping for clothes for my dolls, watching goosebumps and eating those smelly foot popsicles. She made the best biscuits, and no one could beat her pancakes on Sunday. She had no filter and had tons of sass and jokes to top it off. Which either kept us laughing or rolling our eyes… likely both. She’s given me some of the best memories, that I’ll cherish forever.” Alice’s door was always open to everyone. A lady of faith, she now enjoys the promise of her Lord. Surviving are her daughter, Heather (Chuck), Truro; son, Mathew (Vicki), Trenton; grandchildren, Chantelle (Holly), Halifax; Kola, New Glasgow; Travis (Danielle), New Glasgow; Bryanna (Shawn), Martina (Mike) and Kayla, Ontario; great-grandchildren, Beau, Maisyn, Paisley, Andrew and Chelsea; sister-in-law, Peggy Barnett, Trenton; brother-in-law, Gordon Kellock, Chance Harbour Road; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Peter Rodney “Mickey” MacKenzie, Sr.; son, Peter Rodney MacKenzie, Jr.; sisters, Marie, Annie Baillie, Sally MacLean, Jean MacLean, Doris Worthen, Patsy Cook and Shirley Kellock; brothers, Willard, Jimmy, William, Kenneth “Kenny”, George “Blackie” and Fraser Barnett; several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held. If desired, donations maybe made in memory of Alice to the IWK Foundation.
