Obituary of Freda Cockcroft

NEW GLASGOW – W. M. “Freda” Cockcroft, 89, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Blackpool, England, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Holland) Atkinson. In earlier years, Freda had been an accomplished synchronized swimmer and had played a role in a live synchronized performance with film star Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan). Freda trained in Blackpool as a seamstress, a vocation to which she returned, after raising her four children. She was an avid darts and bingo player. Freda and her husband, Fred, enjoyed 13 cruises to different parts of the world and spent many wonderful years wintering in Orange City, Fla. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Surviving are her friend of 73 years and husband of 67 years, Fred; children, John (Darlene) Cockcroft, Meadowville; Janice (Aubrey) Sangster, New Glasgow; Judy Edwards, Stellarton; grandchildren, Christine (Mike), Christopher (Ellen), Nicholas (Sara), Samantha, Richard and Katie; great-grandchildren, Ben, Nathan, Gage and Charlee; sister, Dorothy (Ron) Notton, Blackpool; sister-in-law, Vera Wills, Los Angeles, Calif.; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, William; grandson, Anthony; great-grandson, Michael; sisters, Peggy Hampson and Rene Wilkinson; brothers-in-law, John Hampson and Don Wilkinson. A private graveside service will be held. If desired, donations may be made in Freda’s memory to Glen Haven Manor or Alzheimer Society of Canada. (Please click on link to donate online)
