Obituary of M. Thelma MacDonald
ARDNESS – M. Thelma MacDonald, 93, Ardness, passed away peacefully Monday, April 11, 2011 at home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Antigonish, Thelma was the daughter of the late Allen Charles and Mary “Minnie” (MacLean) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore, where she had served on the Altar Society and taught catechism in her home for many years. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and knitting. Well-known for her sense of humour, fondness for children and ability to entertain and make everyone comfortable, she was popular as the neighbourhood barber.
Surviving are daughters, Josie (Carson) England, Antigonish; Thelma MacDonald, Ardness, Louise (Frank) Diamond, Woodburn; Stasia (Colin) MacGillivray, Antigonish; son, A.A. (Darlene) MacDonald, Ardness; sister, Joan (George) MacInnis, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Jean MacDonald, Anaheim, Calif.; Ruth MacDonald, Michigan; Margaret MacDonald, Antigonish; Marie MacDonald, Antigonish; Cecilia “Tela” Chisholm, New Glasgow; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Donald “Donald Sandy” MacDonald; daughter, Mary Bernice in infancy; great grandson, Calum MacDonald; sisters, Catherine Smith, Gertrude Murphy, Irene (Lakeman) Robinson, Jean Fraser, Winnie MacDonald; brothers, Harry, Charlie, John, Joe, Peter, Clement, Allan “Jr.”, Jerome, and a brother in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 14th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 15th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
