Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Dickson

DICKSON, Jean Elizabeth “Betty” - 87, Riverton, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 in Valley View Villa, surrounded by her family. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Catherine Sarah (MacLean) Fraser. She married Douglas James Dickson and together they opened their hearts and home, nurturing a family that included many foster children. She was a lifelong member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow where she served as deacon and in many other capacities. For many years Betty had volunteered with the Pictou County Food Bank. Her love for her family and others was unwavering. Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Dickson (David Lloyd), Iqaluit, Nunavut; Janet Lynn (James ) Bailey, New Glasgow; Ann Marie (Allan) MacDonald, Stellarton; son, Paul Douglas Dickson, Ottawa; sister, Helen MacNeil, Lively, Ont.; brother, Graham (Irma) Fraser, Stellarton; grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Lindsay, Jared, Jacob, Russ, Mark, Danny and Katie; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas; brothers, Charles, Robert, Douglas and Lloyd. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private funeral service will be held. The Dickson family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion shown by the Valley View Villa staff. Family flowers only.
