Obituary of Christena Mae MacDonald

CHURCHVILLE – Christena Mae MacDonald, 97, Churchville, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Archibald Gillespie and Elizabeth (Cameron) Grant. Mae worked alongside her husband, Alexander, operating the family farm in Churchville for many years. She was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church. Mae enjoyed knitting and used her talent to knit hundreds of pairs of mittens for the Red Cross over the years. She was a true friend, loving and devoted wife, who will be greatly missed by those she loved. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Alexander Dunbar “A.D.” MacDonald; brother, Rev. James Grant, Woodstock, Ont.; brother-in-law, Clarence MacDonald, Churchville; several nieces; friends, Andy and Wendy Ward, Churchville. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother in infancy; sisters-in-law, Annabelle Grant and Daisy MacDonald. In honour of Mae’s wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Mae’s memory to any charity of choice.
