Obituary of Gerald Crofton Whitman

NEW GLASGOW - Gerald Crofton Whitman, 74, New Glasgow passed away peacefully November 14, 2016, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII surrounded by his family. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Gerald and Emma (Trefry) Whitman. Gerald retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia after 41 years of service. He was involved in the Cub Scouts of Canada as a leader of the 13th New Glasgow pack. Gerald was a member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. He was a past member of the Lion’s Club. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Carol (Wells) Whitman; sons, Gerald (Rachel), Sunny Brae; Geoffrey (Connie Daye), Toronto, Ont; granddaughters, Carrie Lynn; Erica Davis (Trevor); sister, Sheila (Bernie) Murphy, Beaverbank; two nephews and two nieces; his dog Tasha, his companion at Tim Hortons. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son in infancy. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in First United Baptist Church. Private family burial will take place in Abercrombie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerald's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia or First United Baptist Church.
