Obituary of Margaret Luella McGee

SUTHERLAND’S RIVER – Margaret Luella “Peggy” McGee, 62, Sutherland’s River, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at home, surrounded by her family, after a two year battle with cancer. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Robert Davies and Jean Christine (Fraser) Campbell. Affectionately known as “Peggy,” she was a beautiful person who will always live in the hearts of her family and friends. She was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church and CWL, Thorburn. Peggy graduated from the Nova Scotia Teacher’s College and taught at several elementary schools in Pictou and Halifax Counties over her long career. She was a dedicated teacher, inspiring her students to reach their full potential. For Peggy, all things centered on her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She was a partner, a mentor, a best friend and a true inspiration. Peggy will be remembered for her courageous spirit, enduring strength, gentle nature and unfailing ability to see the best in everything and everyone. Her ever-present optimism allowed her to enjoy every moment and revel in life’s simple pleasures. Peggy was a selfless caregiver who made the world a better place for her family and friends. Her terrific sense of humor and fun loving spirit made every day an adventure. Peggy is survived by her husband, Michael; daughters, Maggie and Michelle; son, Jason (Heather); grandchildren, Savanna, Makayla and Kyle; sisters, Anna, Joyce and Laura; brother, Alex. She was pre-deceased by her parents and sister, Jane Elizabeth in infancy. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18th in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
