Obituary of Beulah Mae MacKinnon

NEW GLASGOW – Beulah Mae MacKinnon, New Glasgow, formerly of Lismore, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 surrounded by her loving family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, on January 31, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Roberta (Patton) Arbuckle. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore and faithfully attended St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow for the past 37 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society and St. John the Baptist CWL. Beulah was an avid card player and Blue Jay’s fan, enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles and baking. She exemplified motherhood by practicing her faith. Her greatest pride and joy was her family and their accomplishments. Surviving are her daughters, Barb (George) Doucette, Halifax; Sue (Leon) Doucette, Plymouth; Jane (Kevin) Scott, New Glasgow; sons, Gordon (Pat), Lismore; Bill (Pat), Dartmouth; Philip (Lynda), Port Elgin, Ont.; Neil (Cindy), Lismore; Glen (Patsy), Trenton; sister, Maude MacEachern, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Anne MacKinnon, North Grant; brothers-in-law, Raymond MacKinnon, New Glasgow; Harvey Beaver, Tangier; Ross Moore, Montreal; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Francis MacKinnon; grandchildren, Vicki Irwin and Amy MacKinnon; sisters, Christena, Lillian, Elizabeth and Frances; sister-in-law, Marie Hardwick; brothers-in-law, Rev. A.A. MacKinnon, Art McGirr, Elmer Clattenburg and Jack MacEachern. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 9th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10th in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony MacDonald and Rev. Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lismore. No flowers please. Donations may be made in Beulah’s memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or the Pictou County Food Bank, 410 Granville Street, New Glasgow, NS B2H 4Z2.
