Obituary of Uda Rebecca Lynch

NEW GLASGOW – Uda Rebecca Lynch, 93, New Glasgow, passed away, Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at home. Born in Lunenburg, in 1914, she was the daughter of the late Captain Freeman and Lilla Corkum. The schooner, Uda R Corkum, named after her, was lost on Sable Island 80 years ago in the August gales. Uda served as a Nursing Sister at the Children’s Hospital during World War II. She was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are her son, Andy (Karen) Lynch, Halifax; grandchildren, Kerry Lynch (Marah Haywood), Robin (Paul) Dunphy, Halifax; nieces, nephews and many friends that were special to Uda’s life. She was predeceased by her husband, Major Gordon Lynch; sisters, Betty Holland and Pearl Lohnes; brothers, Rev. Burton Corkum and Gilbert Corkum. The family is deeply grateful to Uda’s care givers; Pat Nemeth, Mary Lou Hunter, Rose Williams, Ruth Alexander and Jim Hape. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church with Ms. Lori Crocker, Diaconal Minister officiating. Private family interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or Trinity United Church, 151 Temperance Street, New Glasgow, NS B2H 3A9.
