Obituary of James Phillip Delorey

NEW GLASGOW – James Phillip Delorey, 92, New Glasgow, passed away, Saturday, September 10, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Affectionately known as, “James”, “Jim”, “Jimmy”, “Dad”, “Grampie”, “Papa” and “Uncle James”. He lived a full life, filled with family and friends. Dad was a good man, honest, fair, respected and witty. He enjoyed giving of himself to help others. He began working over 80 years ago, making hay for 10 cents per day. It led down many paths, fishing lobsters with his own boat at 16 years old, working the lumber camps, cook on the CNR trains to Montreal, a police officer in New Glasgow in the early 50’s, heavy equipment operator, spending many months away at a time working up north on The DEW Line, along with other projects. In later years, he was employed as a millwright on numerous projects. A few of Dads passions were woodworking, fishing and a good game of cards. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. He now enjoys the realization of his Christian faith, being reunited with the love of his life, Theresa, never to be separated again, waiting the day when they will be joined by family and friends. Surviving are his daughters, Peggy (Richard) DeCoste, Marie Chisholm, New Glasgow; sons, Gerald (Kathie), Little Harbour; David (Peggy), New Glasgow; Richard (Gladys), Rocky Harbour, N.L.; Darrell (Stephanie), New Glasgow; sister, Rita Hearn, Annapolis Valley; Foster Sister, Jeanie McGillivery, British Columbia.; grandchildren, Ricky (Diane), Jason, Noelle, Melanie (Troy), Bobbie Lee (Garrett), David (Tara), Aaron (Shelia), Matthew (Candace), Jenny, Christian, Noah, Cale and Willow; great-grandchildren, Logan, Taylor, Allie, Aidan, Kaden, Matison, Hadley, Hannah, Simon, Ryder; sisters-in-law, Margaret Aucoin, Cheticamp; Beatrice Delorey, Afton; Mary Lou Delorey, Trenton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Anna Mattie and Mary Fitzgerald; brothers, Paul and Joseph Henry. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14th in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to Lung Association of Nova Scotia. (Please click on the above charity to donate online.)
