Obituary of John Alexander Smeltzer
WESTVILLE/LAKESIDE – John Alexander Smeltzer, 55, Lakeside, formerly of Westville, passed away peacefully, May 5, 2012 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Thomas Augustus and Blanche Evelyn (Boutlier) Smeltzer. John was employed with Otter Lake Waste Processing & Disposal Facility for the past seven years. In earlier years, he had been employed with C.F. Dickson Forest Products and Lawson Cook. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and walking in the woods. John loved his family.
Surviving are sisters, Betty (Ben) Sauntry, New Glasgow; Anne (Mike) Ramsey, Calgary, Alta.; Esther (Bill) Lafferty, Trenton; Beverly (Glen) Rogers, Puslinch, Ont.; Rene Smeltzer (Morris McGucy), Gravenhurst, Ont.; Darlene Smeltzer (James Dean), Trenton; brothers, Gary (Phyllis), Union Centre; Stewart (Ruby), Vancouver Island, B.C.; Ardie, Halifax; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10th in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson presiding. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Rocklin.
