Obituary of Catherine Aileen Rehill
NEW GLASGOW - On December 5, 2021, we said goodbye to our mom, Catherine Aileen "Kay" Rehill (nee McCarron). She passed away quietly in her sleep during an afternoon nap at the age of 82.
Mom was born on February 26, 1939, in New Glasgow and grew up in Trenton, the youngest of nine children born to William McCarron and Florence (nee MacKinnon.) She attended St. John's Church and St. John's Catholic School in New Glasgow. At the tender age of eighteen, she married our dad and her one love, John Charles “Jack” Rehill. On September 28th they celebrated sixty-four years of marriage. By age thirty she was mom to seven children under twelve. She worked at CIBC, Woolworth's Department store and, for almost twenty years until retirement, as a ward clerk in ICU at the Aberdeen Hospital. She had a keen sense of humor, even through her struggles with Parkinson's disease, which had robbed her of potential joys that her senior years might have brought. She was a strong woman, tough and resilient through many trials. She loved to dance, sing, and laugh. She will be missed dearly but is now free from the disabling illness that chained her. For that we are truly happy.
She is survived by our dad, Jack, and her seven children; Janice, Cathy, and Jacqueline "Jackie" Rehill, Bob (Doris), Brian (Beth), Glenn (Rhonda) and Barry (Patti); her sister Joan Lesaux, Ottawa; sisters-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" MacDonald, Linacy and Frances McCarron, Trenton; eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by sister Isabel (Muni) Murphy and her husband Mickey; sister, Helen Coleman and her husband Allister; brothers, Bernard (Dewy) McCarron and his wife Margaret; Owen and his wife Audrey; Joseph and his wife Kay; Adrian; infant sister, Phyllis; sister-in-law, Betty Yates (nee Rehill) and her husband Frank Yates; brother-in-law, Frank MacDonald, husband of Dorothy, and dear grandson, Jeremy Robert Rehill.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, December 14 P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
A private funeral service will be held in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow.
