Obituary of Michael Ranald Cunningham
Michael Ranald Cunningham, age 59, passed away August 22, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax on Saturday, August 22, 2020 as the result of a tragic accident.
Born on March 14, 1961, he was a loving husband to his wife and soulmate, Theresa (MacLean) Cunningham; surviving, stepson, Cory MacLean, Ottawa; daughters, Holly Cunningham, Halifax; Lauren Cunningham, Australia; sister, Leigh Cunningham, Sutherlands River; niece, Logan Cunningham and great niece, Chloe Nanton, New Glasgow; mother-in-law, Kathleen MacLean, Antigonish; numerous brothers and sister-in-law; honourary family, Luke Swallow, Mike, Doug and Gregory Cooley, Jimmie Maclean, Donnie Rae and Terry MacLeod.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth “Betty” (Heisler) Cunningham; father-in-law, Leo MacLean and honorary family member, Keith MacLean.
Mike was employed with Provincial Poles Specialist the past 13years and had been previously employed with The Department of Lands and Forests, MacLellans Brook Depot for 20 years. Mike was a Past Master of Hudson Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M., Thorburn and a proud member for 33 years. He was loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend. You could always find Mike in his yard with his “boy”, Jack (his boxer), landscaping his property or at the garage with the boys sharing endless stories and laughter. Mike will be forever remembered for his wonderful smile and zest for life.
His family would like to thank friends, family, EHS, Emergency team at the Aberdeen Hospital and Life Flight services for their assistance and care. A very special thank you to Dr. Jack Rasmussen and his team at the Halifax Infirmary for the exceptional compassionate end of life care that they provided.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 26th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private service will be held. No flowers by request of family.
A graveside committal service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 in Murray's Point Cemetery, Lower Barneys River with Mr. John Reeves officiating. A Celebration of Michael's life will follow at his late residence, 81 Bubba Tyler Lane, MacLellans Brook.
If desired, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Hudson Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M. or QEII Foundation Halifax Infirmary ICU Burn Unit.
