SUTHERLAND’S RIVER – Patricia Margaret “Patsy” MacLellan, 84, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Sutherland’s River, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the Villa with her daughter by her side. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was a daughter of the late Matthew A. and Elsie Ann (Hanes) Clarkin. Patsy was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton and was a faithful member of the former St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton. She was very active in her community; working and speaking her mind at Home and School meetings, the Sutherland’s River and Area Community Center, and any informal setting she happened upon. Patsy surrendered her American passport to become a Canadian Citizen in 1973, when the voting rules changed, so she could continue to express her opinion at the ballot box. She was a noted supplier of cookies, snacks and juice to any child who passed within earshot of her cowbell, which she rang at mealtimes or when she thought a snack would be appropriate. Patsy never missed the opportunity to send a birthday card, wanting everyone to feel loved. She was dedicated to her family and throughout her life, was an avid cheerleader, encouraging and celebrating the accomplishments and triumphs of family, neighbours and community youth. Patsy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and “adopted grandma”, who will be dearly missed by those she loved. Surviving are children, John (Beth) MacLellan, High Level, Alta., and their children, Kaela, Kirsten, Katherine “Kate” and Kelly MacLellan; Robert (Beverlee) MacLellan, Fraser’s Mountain and their children, Beverlee MacLellan, Thurman MacLellan and Jennifer MacLellan (Cyril Wark); Joey (Shawna) MacLellan, Lantz and their children, Matthew MacLellan (Brittany DeCoffe), Holly and Lauren Cunningham and Reagan MacLellan; Anne (Norman) MacLeod, MacLellan’s Brook, and their children, Aleisha MacLeod-Smith (Jeff Smith) and Jaclyn MacLeod; James Olding MacLellan, Sutherland’s River; Charles MacLellan, Sutherland’s River and his children, Talia and Megan Brow, and Marley MacLellan; Rosemary MacLellan (Derek Clermont), Ottawa; siblings, Elsie Diggins, Bobby Clarkin, Billy (Liz) Clarkin, Matt (Mira) Clarkin and Danny (Maureen) Clarkin; sister-in-law, Delia “Dee” Clarkin, all of Rhode Island; brother-in-law, Gerald (Dorothy) MacLellan, Thorburn; “like a brother”, Allison (Patty) Leil, Coalburn; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Grant W. MacLellan; son, Thomas “Tommy” MacLellan (August 2016); sisters, Rosemary Clarkin (August 2018); brother, Alan Clarkin (June 2018). In honor of Patsy’s written wishes there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2018 in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson presiding.
