Obituary of Lauraetta Patton "Laurie" O'Donnell
NEW GLASGOW – Lauraetta Patton “Laurie” O’Donnell, 90, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Stellarton, passed away, Sunday, February 6, 2011 in the Manor, surrounded by family.
Born in Lower Barney’s River, she was a daughter of the late Charles David and Lydia Mason (Patton) Arbuckle. She had been a homemaker the majority of her life, having worked for J.A. Doyle Fish Plant for several years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish and the Salvation Army Home League. Laurie was a 50-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 28, Stellarton. Her favourite pastimes were playing bingo, watching TV and chatting on the phone.
Surviving are her daughters, Norma MacDonald, New Glasgow; Peggy (Francis) Legge, Antigonish; Carol Doucette, New Glasgow; Sandra (Donnie) Munroe, Chance Harbour Road; Kendra (John) Gray, Stellarton; son, Larry Simpkin, Lower Barney’s River; 27 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 9 great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John Stewart Simpkin; second husband, William “Nick” Nickerson; third husband, Stirling O’Donnell; son, David William Nickerson; sisters, Vera Conrad, Jean Nash, Edith Nason and Catherine Feit; brothers, Wesley, Willard, Raymond, Alexander and Norman Arbuckle.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.8.11 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9.11 in the chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
