Obituary of Evelyn Catherine Gordon Cameron
NEW GLASGOW - Evelyn Catherine Gordon (Proudfoot) Cameron, 93, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in the Manor.
Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late Dr. James Adam and Harriet Anne (MacKay) Proudfoot. So many beautiful qualities described Evelyn. She was a brilliant student and mathematics whiz, who at the age of fifteen was enrolled in Dalhousie University, Halifax. She became a master Celtic pianist at a young age and continued on to become an accomplished organist at St. Matthew's United Church, Inverness for many years. Over the years, she tutored many university students in Latin and Mathematics. In her early forties, she became a lady entrepreneur, opening Cameron’s Gift Shop, Inverness. She was a lady ahead of her time, managing her business while excelling as a wife and mother. Evelyn’s journey with Alzheimer's began in 1996 and she was helped by so many people throughout. She was a resident at Glen Haven Manor since June 2001, where she received excellent care.
Surviving are her daughter, Adelaide “Kim” Cameron, New Glasgow; sons, James “Buddy” (Jeanette) Cameron, New Glasgow; Roy Cameron, Toronto; brother, James A. “Bert” Proudfoot, Toronto; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Allister Campbell Cameron; sisters; Adelaide Proudfoot, Mary Proudfoot MacKinnon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in St. Matthew’s Corner Cemetery, Inverness.

The family wish to thank the caring staff of Glen Haven Manor and express their gratitude to Dr. John Forbes. They wish to also acknowledge, Vickie Mueller, Sister Mary and Mary Dion (Havre Boucher) for their friendship and warmth given to mom when she needed it most.
