Obituary of Peter Ivor Bygrave

NEW GLASGOW - Peter Ivor Bygrave, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family by his side. Born in Norwich, England, on September 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Clifford Walter and Marjorie Inez (Watling) Bygrave. Peter attended Norwich Grammar School and upon graduation joined The Norwich Union Life Insurance Company. He was a Freeman of the City of Norwich. Following retirement, he and his wife, Jean, emigrated to Canada on April 4, 1988 and proudly became Canadian citizens. They pleasantly settled into life in Pictou County. Peter enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes including golf, television sports, marquetry, painting and stained-glass making. He enjoyed countless hours playing golf at the Abercrombie Country Club with his friends. Peter was a member the Gyro Club of New Glasgow where he greatly enjoyed the fellowship and friendships of his fellow members. He was a quiet and caring man, whose legacy is the love he freely gave to his wife and son. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jean Eileen (Brinded) Bygrave; son, Stephen (Carolyn) Bygrave, New Glasgow; cousin, Dr. Angela Blanchard, Norwich, England. The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21st in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment.
