Obituary of Elmer Fountain Bailey

NEW GLASGOW – Elmer Fountain Bailey, 80, New Glasgow, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in Earltown, he was a son of the late Albert and Gladys Irene Bailey. In earlier years he served with the Canadian Army for nine years, and was a member of the Black Watch upon discharge. Elmer was a woodsman, working a number of years for Gordon MacKay and retiring from D. Porter and Sons, Stellarton. In later years, Elmer enjoyed playing electronic poker and spending time with his dog, Max. Surviving are daughters, Joyce (Bob) Ebsbury, New Glasgow; Linda Millen, Westville; Wanda (George “Simmer”) Simms, Susan Bailey, New Glasgow; Sharon Bailey, New Brunswick; Sandra Bailey, New Glasgow; Doris Bailey, Toronto, Ont.; Karen Bernard, Stellarton; sons, Howard, Cambridge, Ont.; John (Cheryl), Abercrombie; former wife, Eva (Ross) Bailey, New Glasgow; sisters, Eleanor (John) MacKay, Plymouth; Juanita (Gerry) Sellers, Truro; brother, Lloyd, Balmoral Mills; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Craig and Allan; brother, George; sisters, Edna Atchison and Irene in infancy. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 22 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Cremation to follow. Donations may be made in Elmer’s memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment or Pictou County VON. (Please click to donate online.)
