Obituary of Lawrence Sydney Williams

Barney's River- Lawrence Sydney Williams passed away peacefully Saturday July 24, 2010 at home surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Marshy Hope, he was a son of the late John Frederick and Georgina Elizabeth (Grant) Williams. He was a faithful member of Barney`s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Managers. He was an ordained elder of the Kirk Session for 44 years. Lawrence participated in many aspects of the life of this congregation including his involvement in the manse building committee in 1982. Along with his brothers, he was a partner of Williams Brothers Ltd. until 1978. The sawmill was his passion and pride. Lawrence was a member of Hudson Lodge No.77, A.F. & A.M., Thorburn, where he was a 50 year jewel holder, the U.C.T. Pictonian Council No.879, New Glasgow and the Moore Lodge No.17, I.O.O.F, Thorburn. He was a past member of the Nova Scotia Forests Products Association and Maritime Lumber Bureau. Lawrence was a kind and generous man who was deeply devoted to his wife and family. His presence and influence will be with them forever. He will be sadly missed by his wide circle of friends made through business, travel and social activities. His greatest joys in life included interacting with his 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, spending time with friends at his mountain top camp and travelling with Dot. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy “Dot” (Murdock);daughters, Wendy(Robert) Ross,Barney's River; Shelley (Lawrence) MacDonald, Avondale; sons, Eric (Jean), Cameron (Colene), Barney`s River; daughter-in-law Janice Williams, Barney's River; sisters, Emily Donnelly, The Ponds; Margaret Fraser, New Glasgow; Adell Keays, Moncton; brothers, Grant, Gerald, Elmer (Peggy), Barney's River; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, L. Gary Williams, on June 6, 2010 and grandson, Jonathan Williams. The family will receive visitors 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 26th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Hudson Lodge Masonic service will be held 6:30p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27th in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville with Rev. Larry Welch officiating. Family interment will be in Glen Bard Cemetery, Marshy Hope. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Lawrence's memory to Barney`s River Presbyterian Church General Fund or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
