Obituary of Alexander Mervyn MacDonald
MACPHERSON’S MILLS – Alexander Mervyn “Sander” MacDonald, 72, MacPherson’s Mills, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at home surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Finlay Mervyn and Bessie Agnes (Chisholm) MacDonald. He was a cartographer with the Government of Canada in Ottawa for 21 years. Upon return to MacPherson’s Mills in 1979, he was employed with Michelin Tire, Granton for a number of years. Following retirement from Michelin Tire, he assisted his wife with the operation of Highland Gifts, Highland Square Mall, New Glasgow. Sander enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid skier and cyclist. He was a lifelong fan of auto racing, and greatly enjoyed his family trips to Mosport, Ontario and Louden, New Hampshire to watch the races.
Surviving are his wife, Pat (Graham); son, Stephen, Geneva, Switzerland; daughters, Kim (Peter) Wicha, Halifax; Robyn (Sean) Litle, Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Jana, Dylan and Lauren.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A private service will be held at a later date.
