Obituary of Shirley Marie Murdoch
STELLARTON – Shirley Marie Murdoch, 77, Stellarton, formerly of MacLellan’s Brook, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Mark Joseph and Helen Margaret (Hardy) Stewart. Prior to retirement, she was employed as Laundry Manager with the Aberdeen Hospital, previously working in the former nurse’s residence. Before accepting the management position, Shirley was actively involved with the local Canadian Union of Public Employees. She was the matriarch of her family, strongly supporting her children and grandchildren. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who treasured the companionship of her canine friend, Maggie.
Surviving are her daughters, Wendy Murdoch, Dartmouth; Judith (Gary) Murray, Springville; Evelyn (Tommy) Forsyth, MacLellan’s Brook; grandchildren, Leslie, Jamie, John Robert, Gillian, Ashley, Travis and Rylee; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Seth, Hezekiah, Christian and Summer; sister, Helen Stewart MacLeod, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; brothers, Russell (Anne) Stewart, Charlottetown; Allan (Jeanne) Stewart, Cape Cod, Mass.; Herbert (Margie) Stewart, Greenwood; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Leslie Murdoch; brother-in-law, Alan MacLeod; nephew, Mark Stewart.
A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the Thorburn Firehall.
