Obituary of Catherine Jean Savoie

THE PONDS – Catherine Jean “KK” Savoie, 67, The Ponds, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 6, 2010, surrounded by her family, at home. Born in Walkerville, she was a daughter of the late William Alexander and Anna Mae (Fitzpatrick) Ryan. “KK” was employed with the former Lismore Seafood Limited from 1970 to 1987 when she joined her husband, Ulysse, as a fisherman’s helper, retiring in the spring of 2007. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore and an avid supporter of her community. She greatly enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, Blue Grass music and socializing with her Blue Grass family. She looked forward to the summer months when she and Ulysse would travel throughout the Maritimes camping and attending Blue Grass festivals. Her kitchen never closed, the tea pot was always on. She will be fondly remembered for her Christmas Eve dinners. “KK” was extremely proud of her great-grandson, Hayden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. Surviving are her husband, Ulysse; daughter, Cathy (Donald) Grant, Sutherland’s River, their children, Krista-Lee (Jason) and son, Hayden, Egerton; Allison, Ottawa; Alisha (Cole), Port Alice, B.C.; Kaitlyn (Mitchell), White Hill; son, Buddy (Shirley), Lower Barney’s River and their children, Joey (Erika), Barney’s River; Derrick, Fort Nelson, B.C.; Amanda (Tim), Antigonish; foster son, Marty (Judy) Hussher, Fort Wayne, Indiana and their four children; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Theresa; brothers-in-law, Kenny, Al and Bud. She was predeceased by her infant son, Joseph Jr. (Cathy’s twin); sisters, Patsy and Betty; brother, Donnie. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11th in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in “KK’s” memory to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia or the Pictou County VON.
