Obituary of James Benjamin Smith
NEW GLASGOW – James Benjamin “Buddy” Smith, 70, New Glasgow, Formerly of Merigomish passed away peacefully, Sunday September 19, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Trenton, he was a son of the late James Benjamin and Lillian Mae (King) Smith. He had been employed in the Paint Department of the former Trenton Works, retiring after 40 years service due to ill health. He was an adherent of Christian Fellowship Church, New Glasgow. Buddy was a passionate artist, emulating the painting style of the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson, and working with charcoal. He was an avid reader and frequent visitor to the New Glasgow Library.
|Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Elaine (Phalen); daughters, Shannon (Cartie) MacNeil, Churchill Falls, Nfld.; Bonita “Bonny”. (Bob Webster), Merigomish; grandchildren, Ryan (Beth), Emma and Logan; brothers, Gordon (Amy), Vancouver, B.C.; William, Halifax; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jason; sister, Patricia Biggar; brother, Michael.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 21st in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 22nd in the chapel with Rev. Bruce Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery.
