Obituary of Irene Mary Jane MacLellan
SUTHERLAND’S RIVER – Irene Mary Jane MacLellan, 86, Sutherland’s River, passed away, Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Drumhead, on March 3, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Victor and Christena Maude (Sangster) Luddington. During the Second World War, she was employed in the former Gun Shop, Trenton. She worked alongside her late husband, Lester, operating Lester MacLellan’s Service Station, Sutherland’s River, for many years. She was a member of Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church and a life-member of the Atlantic Missionary Society. Irene enjoyed crocheting, knitting, completing word puzzles, traveling and monthly luncheons with the Gun Shop Club. She was the family matriarch, actively participating in her children’s, grandchildren’s, great-grandchildren’s, nieces and nephews lives. She was a living example of love.
Surviving are her daughters, Faye Acorn, Sutherland’s River; Betty (Brian) Meikle, Stellarton; sons, Ronnie (Louise), New Glasgow; Raymond (Bernadette), Westville; sister, Wilma Crooks, Summerland, B.C.; grandchildren, Timmy (Sheila), Tammy, Michael (Renee), Richard (Donna), Doug (Kilsoon), Lisa (Cameron), Michelle (Peter), Natalie (Brian), Stephanie (Brad), Heather (Chris), Brian (Stephanie), Larissa (Jody), Garon (Kim), Derek (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Dillon, Grace, Kale, Alexis, Sophie, Gavin, Waylon, Hailey, Cameron, Jessie, Jayden and Liam; sisters-in-law, Patsy MacLellan, Sutherland’s River; Mary Sanders, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Gerald (Dorothy) MacLellan, Thorburn; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lester; son, Victor; sister, Leona (Ross) Hubley; brother, Victor (Ada); son-in-law, Bob Acorn; sister-in-law, Isabel (Oliver) Adamson; brothers-in-law, Grant MacLellan, John Sanders, Chester Crooks.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 in Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church with Ms. Debbie Stewart, Diaconal Minister and Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Telford Cemetery.
